Training of Trainers
Passing down knowledge to the grassroots
One of SATG’s main objectives is to pass down knowledge to the grassroots. A considerable amount of knowledge specific to Somali agriculture has been lost with the prolonged war. There is also a wealth of information and experience from all over the world that can be applied in Somalia. SATG’s aim is to collect and develop this knowledge base to benefit the Somali people and help them achieve food security.
Projects at SATG are heavily dependent on field activities and engagement with the local farming communities in Somalia. Despite the turmoil and lack of governance, SATG has achieved significant levels of success in the field.
The partnerships SATG has fostered with SAGRA and the local communities in its areas of operation puts it at the forefront of Somali agricultural research and development. This has led to many other engagements with reputable international organisations which rely on SATG for their projects.
SATG itself is a network of agricultural professionals whose prime focus is to re-establish sustainable agricultural development in Somalia. Fieldwork forms the core of SATG’s activities and it strives to employ industry-standard best practices in its work. SATG works to pass on this knowledge to the local community in Somalia via its network of trainers who further take this knowledge to the grassroots.
SATG has embarked on the Training of Trainers for various international NGOs operating in the fields of:
- Seed and input interventions
- Use of best crop management practices
- Integrated pest management practices
- Trial and demonstration layouts, data collection
- Data analysis and interpretation of results
- Post-harvest and storage losses
